Single phase and three phase installations

Electricity flows through a single conductor in a single-phase connection. A three-phase connection, on the other hand, is made up of three separate conductors that are required for electricity transmission.

Single Phase Installation

The majority of domestic installations are single-phase. They are single phase, alternating current, and have a contracted power of up to 10 kW. Single-phase electricity connects the house via two wires: active and neutral. At the switchboard, the neutral wire is connected to earth.

Three phase installation

Three-phase installations are those that are comprised of three distinct alternating currents that divide the installation into multiple sections that are supplied by a constant power source. Currently, their standardised voltages are 400 volts. Three-phase consists of four wires: three phases and one neutral. The switchboard earths the neutral wire.
